Privacy Policy
Effective date: 3 November 2026
The short version: we only collect your email address (plus basic technical details your sign-up generates) so we can send you The Daily Skim. We never sell or rent your data. You can unsubscribe at any time with one click, and you can ask us to see or delete your data by emailing hello@thedailyskim.com.
1. Who we are
The Daily Skim (“we”, “us”, “our”) publishes a daily email newsletter and operates this website. We are the personal information controller responsible for the data described in this policy. You can reach us at hello@thedailyskim.com.
2. What information we collect
- Information you give us: your email address when you subscribe, and anything you include if you email us.
- Information collected when you subscribe: our email provider records the date and time of your sign-up, the page you signed up from, your IP address and approximate location derived from it, and your confirmation of the subscription.
- Newsletter engagement: our emails may contain standard tracking pixels and tracked links that tell us whether an email was opened and which links were clicked. We use this only in aggregate to improve the newsletter and keep our list healthy.
- Website logs: this site is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may log visitors’ IP addresses for security and operational purposes. We do not have access to individual visitor logs.
We do not ask for, and ask that you do not send us, sensitive personal information.
3. How and why we use it
- To send you the newsletter you asked for, including occasional service messages (for example, confirming your subscription).
- To understand which content readers find useful and to improve the newsletter.
- To answer messages you send us.
- To prevent abuse, fake sign-ups and spam, and to comply with the law.
Our legal basis is your consent, which you give when you subscribe and can withdraw at any time, and our legitimate interests in running and securing the newsletter. Where required, we also process data to meet legal obligations.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the newsletter, under contracts that require them to protect it:
- AWeber Communications (United States): stores our subscriber list and sends our emails. See AWeber’s privacy policy.
- GitHub, Inc. (United States): hosts this website. See GitHub’s privacy statement.
If our newsletter includes sponsored content, advertisers receive only aggregate figures (such as total opens or clicks), never your email address. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
5. International transfers
Our service providers are located in the United States, so your information may be processed outside your country, including outside the Philippines and the European Economic Area. We rely on our providers’ contractual and security safeguards for these transfers.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your email address for as long as you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we stop emailing you and may keep your address on a suppression list solely so we do not email you again. If you ask us to delete your data, we will remove it from our list, except where we must keep limited records to meet a legal obligation.
7. Cookies
This website does not set its own cookies and does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, so we do not show a cookie banner. When you submit the sign-up form, it is processed by AWeber, which may set cookies needed for that form to work, as described in its own policy.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal information. These include the rights of data subjects under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173), the EU and UK GDPR, and US state privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act. They include the right to:
- be informed about how your data is used;
- access the data we hold about you and get a copy of it, including in a portable format;
- correct inaccurate data;
- object to processing, or withdraw your consent at any time;
- have your data erased or blocked;
- not be discriminated against for exercising your rights; and
- be compensated for damages caused by unlawful processing, where the law provides for this.
To use any of these rights, email hello@thedailyskim.com. We will respond within the time the law requires and may need to verify your identity first. To unsubscribe, click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any newsletter.
If you believe your data has been mishandled, you can complain to the Philippines’ National Privacy Commission or to the data protection authority in your own country. We would appreciate the chance to fix the problem first.
9. Security
We use reputable providers and reasonable organizational, physical and technical measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but if a breach affects your data we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
10. Children
The Daily Skim is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has subscribed, contact us and we will delete their information.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the effective date above and, for significant changes, tell subscribers by email.
